Joliet is a home rule city with a Council-Manager form of government. All matters of local policy and legislation are determined by the City Council with the Mayor presiding.

The City Council is made up of five District Council Members, three at-large Council Members, and the Mayor, who is also elected At-Large. An appointed City Manager oversees the day to day operations of the City.

In order to find out what Councilmanic District you live in, you need only to know the name of your neighborhood or subdivision. If you know the name of your subdivision, download our listing of Councilperson Districts by Subdivision or Neighborhood. If your neighborhood or subdivision is NOT listed here, you may call the Office of Community and Economic Development at (815) 724-4040.

There are City Council maps available in the Office of Community and Economic Development at 150 W. Jefferson St., Joliet, IL 60432. They can be requested in person Monday thru Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or by calling (815) 724-4040.
