Carpenter/Maue House

Built in about 1884, this Eastlake "stick-style" house is the best example of the style in Joliet, and a key example of the period of grand home construction in the Joliet East Side National Register Historic District.. Landmarked in 1991 for both historical and architectural significance, its residents included August Maue, who lived here from 1915 to 1942. During that time he served as Will County School Superintendent and wrote his 1928 history of Will County.

The house has a two-story bay window on each side, a heavy bracketed cornice, and a low hip roof with a flat top.
