Morris Niver Farmhouse

The Morris Niver Farmhouse is a 2 story Greek Revival style wood clapboard structure built circa 1850 on a limestone foundation. The structure, now relocated approximately 150’ south on a concrete foundation, is a rare example of a pre-Civil War rural farmstead common in the Midwest in the 1850’s. An early white settler, Morris Niver, purchased the subject site in 1842 and retained ownership of the property until 1878. In addition to serving as his family farmstead, the upper level of the residence included a dance hall which served as a social recreation center until early in the 20 th Century.
