P. H. McCarthy Building
Constructed in 1887, the McCarthy Building is a key example of the vernacular Italianate style. The simple brick parapet and massing make this small structure a gem in Joliet's City Center. Simple form structures such as this have been almost completely lost in a growing downtown, making this one of the last. P.H. McCarthy resided in the structure above his barbershop. He is listed here until 1912 when a series of new owners and shops took over the building.
