Richardson/Stevens Home
The Benjamin Richardson/W.W. Stevens house is an Italianate structure built in 1841. The house is possibly the oldest home in the part of Joliet known as Campbell's Addition of 1838. The house was nominated for its architectural style and for historical significance. It is believed this house was a duplex that served as the residence for both Mr. Stevens and Mr. Richardson. Mr. Richardson was in law practice with W.W. Stevens. Upon Richardson's death in 1868, Stevens took control of the property and by 1872 was living in the home.
The home is a two-story frame structure with a 1-1/2 story section that has a central entrance and a one story porch. The main facade of the house has a single door entry with a transom. This structure is topped by an end gable roof with a decorative attic window, and the entire home is clad in clapboard siding. The Richardson/W.W. Stevens home is now a single-family residence.
